JPG to PNG converts JPEG photos into PNG files. PNG is a lossless format, so the image won't lose more quality if you edit and save it many times. Many design tools, editors and websites also ask for PNG uploads.
Select one or many JPG files and they are converted instantly in your browser. The pixel dimensions stay exactly the same, and nothing is uploaded.

Tips for best results
Converting JPG to PNG doesn't bring back detail that JPEG compression has already removed, and PNG files are usually larger than JPGs. Convert when you need lossless editing or a format requirement, not to make files smaller. To make the background transparent, use our Background Remover, which outputs a PNG.
JPG uses lossy compression, which means a little detail is thrown away every time the file is saved again. If you plan to edit an image repeatedly, add text or graphics, or use it in a design project, converting it to PNG first stops that quality loss from adding up. PNG is also required by some printing services and app stores.
Compatibility and limits
The JPG to PNG tool works in all modern browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Samsung Internet, on computers, tablets and phones. Images are processed at their full original resolution. Very large photos (above about 50 megapixels) may exceed the memory limits of some mobile browsers, so if a phone struggles, try a computer or resize the image first. Your original file is never modified, because the result is saved as a new file.
Privacy: your files never leave your device
Your images are processed locally in your browser using the HTML5 canvas and WebAssembly. Photos are never uploaded, so personal pictures, ID documents and client work stay on your device. There is no account, and no copies are kept on any server.
Frequently asked questions
Will converting to PNG improve quality?
No. It keeps the current quality exactly, but it cannot restore detail lost in the JPG.
Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless and stores every pixel exactly, so photos take more space.
Can I convert many JPGs at once?
Yes. Select several files together.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Conversion happens on your device.
Does PNG support transparency?
Yes, but a converted JPG has no transparent areas. Use Background Remover to create them.
