PDF to Word turns the text of a PDF into an editable Microsoft Word document (.docx). It is the quickest way to reuse the wording of a report, contract, CV or article without retyping it by hand.
The converter reads the text layer of your PDF and rebuilds it as paragraphs. Larger text such as titles becomes bold headings, and each PDF page can start a new Word page. Everything runs locally in your browser, so even sensitive documents stay private.

Tips for best results
This converter is built for text: it gives you clean, editable paragraphs, but it does not copy images, tables, columns or exact fonts. If your PDF is a scan or a photo of paper, it has no text layer. Use our Image to Text (OCR) tool on the page images first (you can get them with PDF to JPG). After converting, check headings and lists in Word and tidy them with the built-in styles.
Compatibility and limits
The PDF to Word tool works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Samsung Internet, on desktop and mobile. Processing speed depends on your device: a typical document finishes in a few seconds, while files with hundreds of pages or very large scanned images may take longer on older phones. Encrypted (password-protected) PDFs must be unlocked before they can be processed. Your original file is never changed, because the result is always saved as a new download.
Privacy: your files never leave your device
Your PDF is opened and processed by JavaScript running in your own browser, using open-source libraries we host ourselves. The document is never uploaded to our server or anyone else's. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works without an internet connection. Close the tab and the file is gone from memory.
Frequently asked questions
Will my PDF's formatting be preserved?
Text and paragraphs are preserved, and big titles become bold. Complex layouts, columns, tables and images are not reproduced. The tool focuses on giving you editable text.
Why does it say no text was found?
Your PDF is probably a scanned image. Convert its pages to images with PDF to JPG, then use Image to Text (OCR) to recognise the text.
Is the conversion private?
Yes. The PDF is read by JavaScript in your browser and the Word file is built on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
Can I open the result in Google Docs?
Yes. Upload the .docx file to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs, or open it directly in Word or LibreOffice.
Does it work with non-English text?
Yes. Text in any language that is stored as real text in the PDF is extracted. Right-to-left text order may need manual checking.
