Word to PDF Converter

Convert a .docx document to PDF in your browser, with no Microsoft Office and no upload.

Choose a Word file (.docx) or drop it hereFiles are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Supports .docx files (Word 2007 and later). Text, headings, lists, simple tables and images are converted with a clean, standard layout. For exact fonts, use the Print button and choose "Save as PDF".

Word to PDF converts Microsoft Word documents (.docx) into PDF files. A PDF looks the same on every device and is hard to edit by accident, which is why CVs, assignments, invoices and letters are usually sent as PDFs.

This converter reads your .docx file in the browser, shows a preview, and builds a clean A4 PDF with your headings, paragraphs, bullet and numbered lists, tables and images. If you need your original fonts and colours, the Print / Save as PDF button uses your browser's own PDF printer, which keeps more of the styling.

How to use the Word to PDF tool

  1. Select your .docx file. A preview of the content appears.
  2. Click Convert to PDF to create a clean, standard-layout PDF.
  3. Or click Print / Save as PDF and pick "Save as PDF" as the printer to keep the styling.
  4. Download the PDF and share it.

Tips for best results

Old .doc files (Word 97–2003) are a different binary format. Open them in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and save them as .docx first. The clean-layout mode uses a standard font, so characters outside the Latin alphabet (such as Urdu, Arabic or Chinese) are best converted with the Print / Save as PDF option, which uses your system fonts.

Compatibility and limits

The Word to PDF tool works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Samsung Internet, on desktop and mobile. Processing speed depends on your device: a typical document finishes in a few seconds, while files with hundreds of pages or very large scanned images may take longer on older phones. Encrypted (password-protected) PDFs must be unlocked before they can be processed. Your original file is never changed, because the result is always saved as a new download.

Privacy: your files never leave your device

Your PDF is opened and processed by JavaScript running in your own browser, using open-source libraries we host ourselves. The document is never uploaded to our server or anyone else's. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works without an internet connection. Close the tab and the file is gone from memory.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Microsoft Word installed?

No. The .docx file is read directly by your browser, so you don't need Word or Office.

Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?

The clean mode keeps the structure (headings, lists, tables and images) with a standard font and layout. For the closest match to your styling, use Print / Save as PDF.

Can I convert .doc files?

Only .docx is supported. Save older .doc files as .docx in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice first.

Is my document uploaded?

No. The document is converted in your browser and is never sent to a server.

Why do some characters show as question marks?

The clean mode's standard PDF font only covers Latin characters. Use the Print / Save as PDF button for other scripts.
