Add Page Numbers stamps page numbers onto every page of a PDF. Numbered pages make reports, theses, legal bundles and manuals much easier to navigate, print and refer to in a discussion ("see page 14").
Choose one of six positions, a format such as Page 1 of 10, the starting number and the font size. You can also skip the first pages, for example a cover and a table of contents, so that numbering starts where the main content begins.

Tips for best results
If your document already has a cover page, set 'Skip first pages' to 1 and 'Start at' to 1, so the first content page is numbered 1. For a bundle made of several files, merge them first with Merge PDF, then add the numbers once so they run continuously.
Compatibility and limits
The Add Page Numbers to PDF tool works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Samsung Internet, on desktop and mobile. Processing speed depends on your device: a typical document finishes in a few seconds, while files with hundreds of pages or very large scanned images may take longer on older phones. Encrypted (password-protected) PDFs must be unlocked before they can be processed. Your original file is never changed, because the result is always saved as a new download.
Privacy: your files never leave your device
Your PDF is opened and processed by JavaScript running in your own browser, using open-source libraries we host ourselves. The document is never uploaded to our server or anyone else's. Once the page has loaded, the tool even works without an internet connection. Close the tab and the file is gone from memory.
